Slightly OT: Mpg files.

I recently shot a wedding for some friends.edited in Vegas and rendered to DVD mpg, burnt to DVD and turned out pretty good for an amateur.
However, Granma wants a copy but doesn't have a DVD player, just VHS.
I still have the rendered Mpg file, and the DVD image. Is there a way to get the mpg to print to tape, and pass thro the camera to VHS, or is it better to just copy the DVD staight to VHS ??. Or should I convert the Mpg back to AVI and then PTT. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks
Allan.

( maybe I should just tell Granma to buy a DVD player.)

Well, this might not be exactly the way you're asking for, but my most recent experience has been of having a project file going South and not having ANYTHING left except an MPG file. I brought his back onto the T/L and render this straight away to an AVI. I'm now using this AVI as my source for recreating the project .. messy . . oh yes . .BUT it is producing some really nice footage .. I too am going to PTT to DV and thence onto a VHS. The quality looks good so far . . and the project will get finished - always a bonus in my way of thinking .. hah!

So, MPG >> AVI >> DV >> VHS . . that's what I'm doing this morning ..

I'd probably hook a VHS recorder to the DVD player, hit record, and hit play. It would be a LOT faster than re-rendering everything. You would be done in REAL time.

If it was me, i'd follow jetdv's advice and make a realtime copy, and i would probably go pick up an inexpensive DVD player for Granma sometime soon anyway, along with a couple of her favorite movies on DVD. Hey, surely she deserves it! :)

Amazing how we overlook the simple things.

I've been distributing my projects on both DVD and VHS. I do what Jetdv suggested; I load up the DVD into PowerDVD, set my computer up for video output into a VCR, and play the DVD. The VCR records everything the video/audio, and I get a VHS copy of my DVD. Only drawback is if the DVD is over an hour long and I have to run multiple copies of VHS!

Thanks guys, I had already done the DVD player to VCR thing, and it certainly is the simplest. I just wondered if there was a more elegant way of
doing it. There is probably not much point in getting Granma a DVD anyway, the poor old dear is not seeing too much detail these days.
