How big are the stills? If they are too large you are asking Vegas to do a lot of work to resize them 30 times a second. Try resizing them closer to the videos actual resolution.

Ah, that could be it I've added some new photos from the client this time around.

The other thing to check with unusually slow renders is Track Levels.

Make sure all your video track levels are set to 100% on the left edge of the timeline. If they get bumped to 99% YOU won't see any difference, but the rendering engine does.

Into the video portion now, and the render is still creeping along like the proverbial snail.
So we can rule out stills as the issue.
I might expect this kind of performance with blur applied or almost any Magic Bullet FX but this timeline is FX free.

94% and six hours, the render failed.
