Slow render speed

Hi,

I have what I believe to be really slow render speeds on my system.
I ran the same project on two different systems and came up with
completion times that are way too close.

I'm running VV 3.0c build 138 on both systems. The project consists of one
small overlay graphic on track 1, a video .avi on track 2, and an
audio on track 3. All three tracks are the same length which is 2:59:19
minutes long.

Here are the two systems:

System 1:
Dual AMD Athlon 1800+
1GB ram
Windows 2000 Pro service pack 2

System 2:
Single Pentium 4 2Ghz
256MB ram
Windows XP Pro service pack 1

System 1 takes 19:30 minutes to render this project to an DV avi.
System 2 takes 22:06 minutes. These times seem way to close to me.

I would expect the dually system to really crank compared to the
single proc system.

The CPU utilization on the dually is around 54% total for both procs.
CPU 2 makes up about 75% of the 54% with CPU taking up the remainder.

The CPU utilization of the single proc system stays around 97%.

I can't track down whether this is a Windows 2000 issue or a VV issue.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Pat

I cant answer your question but I can refer you to a recent thread on it over at the Cow. You might get a better sense of where you stand on the render speed spectrum---It was sometime last week in the Vegas forum where a bunch of people ran a render test under the auspices of DSE--just type in 'render test ' in the search area and it should come up.

Vegas really takes advantage of dual procs when you have complex audio with lots of audio plugins, multiple tracks, mixed sample rates, mixed formats, speed chages etc AND when you are rendering to DV. All audio and DV compression will be handled by the second proc.

Try a project like this one and you should see a much wider spread between single/dual render times.

Thanks for the tip.

Both my systems are within a second or two of what has been posted.

The only thing to do is split my project in half and render both halves simultaneously to fully utilize the dual proc system.
