Slow rendering?

When I render a 1mbit 640x320 .wmv 9 file it takes about 2 min to render 10sec using Vegas 4.
But if I render the exact same clip using same setting (1mbit 640x320 .wmv 9) in Windows Movie Maker, it only takes about 20sec.

The result looks the same to me; there might be a small difference. But it should not make it take that much longer.

I’m using
Windows XP Pro
3Ghz P4 with HT
1Gb DDR PC3200 800Mhz bus
MSI Motherboard with Intel 875 Chipset.

Any ideas why it takes so long using Vegas?

Are you adding ANY effects or doing a "match output aspect ratio" or anything else in Vegas?

No this is just a plain .avi file captured from my JVC Mini DV camera.
I just have a 10sec video clip with stereo audio for test purpose.
I use the same clip in both Vegas 4 and Windows Movie Maker.
So I’m basically only converting the .avi file to a 1mbit .wmv file.
I’m just puzzled over the test result; WMM is almost 10 times faster.

Do you think it has anything to do with the HT technology my CPU is using? Maybe Vegas 4 doesn’t support Dual CPU but WMM does?

Thanks for you help.

Probably becasue Windows Movie Maker is made by Microsoft, and so are wmv files to their rendering is designed more for that type of file. I know if I encode something to a wmv in Vegas it takes a LOT longer than if I render it out in the Windows Media Encoder.
