Slow software performance... any tweaks?

Hello everyone, this is my first post here.

I've been using VMS Platinum for some time now, and am very impressed with the power of this software at such a low price. Anyway, I'm wondering if there are any tweaks I can perform to the software in order to get better performance.

My footage is all HDV; I shoot with an HVR-Z1U. My PC is a home built rig.

Specs:

AMD X2 3800+
1 GB DDR RAM
2x250GB SATA II drives in RAID0 configuration
2 Nvidia 7800GT in SLI configuration

Even with a fairly powerful setup, the performance is quite slow. For example, when working with roughly 1 hour of video in the timeline, the preview window will be quite jittery. Is there any video hardware acceleration options available?

Thanks.

Anyone?

Can someone at least tell me what kind of systems they're running for optimal performance, or what out of my configuration should I change?

You may want to peruse the regular Vegas forum for threads on working with HD. There aren't nearly as many people in the VMS forum that are into that gear yet. I do recall seeing some discussion about this in the Vegas forum.

The impression I get is that it will simply be slow --even on screamer systems like yours -- due to the compression algorithms used for HD. I believe the common advice is to capture into an intermediate format (I don't recall which one) to do your editing. But, you may already be doing that. FWIW...

Have a look at my reply to this thread. Same caveat applies - I don't use HD, and it's only going to affect the preview at best.

Sounds like you've got your storage subsystem covered. Perhaps you should try the new Intel Core 2 Duo. All reviews I've read says it wipes the floor with all AMD CPUs. Very depressing, as I've not long had an AMD FX55.

Thanks for your suggestions. The system is running on 1GB right now, as I had to send my 2GB dimms back to the manufacturer. I don't remember if it was any better when I had the 2GB in the machine, but I'll try when i get them back.
