slow video issue

studioLord wrote on 2/22/2013, 2:43 PM
I pulled some short clips into Movie Studio and the video is a lot slower than the audio. I can play the clips fine in Quick time player but they aren't working in MS
Thank you for any help on this one... I have never experienced this.
The files are .mov files. I converted them into .wmv files and they play fine in that format but the video is very blurry and a lot smaller...
The audio is fine in either format...???

This sounds like your video needs pre-rendered or is a mismatch with your project settings.

What model of camcorder is your video coming from and what format and resolution is it?

What are your project properties? Have you set your project properties to match your source footage?

Some source footage (cell phone footage or stuff recorded by FRAPS) won't match your project properties, so it's impossible to edit natively. When that happens, your computer can sometimes get bogged down and your video will lag behind your audio.

This can also happen, of course, if your computer is at the lower end of the system requirements, particularly with hi-def.

Thank you so much for the reply.
Please advise on where to check and what to check on the "settings" you referred to in your post.

Would that be at:
Project/ properties/ video tab
or
Options/ preferences/ General tab or Video tab

I have a Win 7/dual core 2.13 GHz/ 4G RAM if that helps

I am not a videographer per se, so I need specific directions in some areas.
again ....Thank you for the help.

Click the Video Project Properties button on the Preview panel to see your project properties.

Meantime, please feel free to check out my free 8 part Basic Training tutorials on the left side of this page. They may give you a head start working with the program.

Hello again... I upgraded my video card from a 256Mb to an Invidia Gforce GT610.
That helped a great deal but thje video is still just slightly slower than the audio.
My settings are: (properties)
Template HP 1080-24p (1980X1080- 23-976 fps
field order: none (progressive scan)

if that means anything.
I will certainly go to the tutorials now....
Thanks,
John

I really like your site Steve... I intend to go thru it when I have some time to concentrate on it. I am considering ordering the book if I can find where to order on your site... I may have just been too tired the other night, but I couldn't find it.
Any way, I was told by my tech guy that all I need to do to get the video running correctly is to upload K-lite codecs and that should solve the issue... I did that but it did not do it... the video is better but not running exactly with the audio. It starts out fine for a second or two and then lags behind... Does that sound like I am on the right track yet? I certainly hope so... this is becoming a really frustrating thing...
Thanks again for any help..
John
