Slow when restarting Vega 4

While using Vegas 4.0, especially when there are many short clips in the media pool, I am finding an unusually long delay when I leave VV and come back from doing something else, such as Windows Explorer.

It doesn't seem to matter if I leave VV for only a moment, when it becomes the active task again, the hour glass is displayed and the program is non-responsive for a minute or more.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Are there options that can be adjusted to speed this up?

Yes there is. Go to options - preferences and turn off "Close media files when not the active application"

Wow, what a performance difference, thanks for the tip!

Of course, there are some disadvantages too. For example, you'll no longer be able to edit an image while that image is being used in Vegas.

I was just going to say that. :) Anyway... I have an AMD xp 1800 with 512mb RAM. I've had LOTS of stuff in Vegas and it's never taken more then a few seconds for Vegas to re-load the media.

Have you defragged your drive lately?
