Slowing audio to a stop

In Vegas we can apply a velocity envelope to a video event wherein we may slow that event gradually from normal speed to a dead stop. However, there is no similar type of envelope we can apply to an audio event to do the same---If we change the speed of an audio event it remains uniform throughout.

Is there a way to slow the audio speed within an event in a graduated fashion from 100% to a dead stop?

Can't do this in Vegas at all.

Open Copy in Sound Forge and use Effects / Pitch Bend to get a variable speed. You can only vary from 4x to 1/4x, but you can repeat the effect multiple times. You won't be able to get it all the way to 0x, but you could even using it only twice to get to 1/16x may be close enough. Simply fade out the last few seconds to cover up the fact that it didn't stop completely.

Not with Vegas alone.

But there are a couple of VST Plugins that will do this. The one I have used successfully is TapeStop.
