Slowing the whole project down

Hi all.

I have a 5 minute project that I whant to render at a slower rate so it will last more and play in slow motion, it's composed out of still pictures with some effects applied to them over time.
I've tried reducing the Normal Rate slider located at the bottom left of the project window but when I render it and I playback the rendered file it plays at normal speed.
Is there like a Master Track I can apply a speed envelope?

please help!

Ho! How novel..... You need to investigate slomo within V4. WHat this does is do what you want, at the correct level of video production. I can imagine you will get into all sorts of playback issues. But, I have to admit your approach is New!

WHat I would do is slap in a velocity envelope. Adjust that envelope to the correct and precise slomo and render that. Keeping your render frame rate the same. Let V4 create the slomo. You need and take heed of the issues about changing render frame rates. I'm sure it will produce something "interesting" - but at the same time it may not produce what you wish AND you will not have learnt all that can be achieved with V4 and Velocity Envelopes.

Keep us informed on progress . . .

I've forgotten the key combination, but I seem to remember you can just select all your events and Ctrl-drag (?) the length of the project to what you want and all events will extend by the same percentage. How's that for simplicity?

Remember, you don't have to 'render' your 'event' just to apply the slow motion effect. The changes you do on the timeline are pretty much 'real time' effects. Also, it's a good idea to right click on your (slow-mo) event, hit -->Switches-->Resample. (This seems to smooth things out).

BTW, welcome to the forum! Ask away, if you have any questions at all.

This forum is a great compliment to an outstanding piece of software!

TorS, you have to select all events with Ctrl-A and then G to group them. Then they'll all stretch and slow down together by Ctrl-Dragging the end of the last event.

thanks for the quick responses! but I'm still stuck, this project is kind'a complex so it would take me a lot of time to go event by event.

what I want to do is just render it at a lower speed rate so it would last longer and play in slow motion, this way it will serve the double purpuose I'm looking for.

thanks for the welcome!

Probably the biggest problems with using a velocity envelope are that you have to modify each event individually and that it only affects the video.

Selecting all events (Ctrl-A) and grouping them (G) will allow you to stretch the entire project out at once. After selecting and grouping, move the mouse to the right edge of the very last event, hold down the Ctrl key, and drag the edge of the last event to the right. This will stretch all events (video and audio) uniformly to whatever length you want. You can slow it down to 25% speed this way, or speed it up to 400% by moving to the left.

looks like that solved it, thanks Chienworks and happy rendering to all!
