I didn't read the article, but it's probably similar to the Canon 50D.

They are kinda making progress, but it will be awhile before it's usable for anything as far as I can see.

1. HDMI output, should have been 1394
2. No sound
3. Poor or no focusing?
4. You have to carry your TV with you and see your video in real time.

Give it time. This could easily be the future. The base concept is there. These cams use much bigger sensors and therefore are a HELL of a lot sharper than any consumer level cam out there. And with the interchangeable lenses you can do things that average off-the-shelf camcorders couldn't even come close to competing with.

Nikon D90

You won't find a still camera with 1394, especially when everything is going flash based. File transfer over firewire will go away IMO.

There is sound.

There is manual focusing while shooting (using Nikon glass - woot!)

You have video playback from the LCD

Yes it's probably not suitable for 90% of the pro video applications out there, however it is a sign of things to come and the convergence of still / video imagery.

For those in newspaper being asked to shoot video and stills this is really the hybrid of things to come. Audio is crap - but the workaround IMO is to work with something like a Zoom H2 and synch audio accordingly.

From someone who has worked in newspaper and having read the challenges my colleagues in the profession are having to deal with - this really is the beginning of technology actually making their jobs easier. Their content is being delivered to the web - this is a perfect solution.

With regards to firewire - it's a non-issue. With 32 and 64GB CF cards as the recording medium - slide one of these in to a CF reader via USB or firewire and go straight to editing.

Well after reading the specs for the D90, it is pretty impressive for a first of it's kind.

1280X720, 24F and up to 5 min. per clip.

mjpg/avi video files

Couldn't find an audio spec.

Let the DSLR/video war begin.
