Small "ghost box" in V4 Preview Window - why?

Ever since I've been using it, I get a small rectangular "ghost box" that appears about 1/3 down, 1/4 screen over, in my V4 preview video window, it looks like this:

see it near the chart pattern, a small grey 'ghost box'? appears on every video preview from all source footage I've ever shot, so it's a "vegas thing"..
never appears on any source avi footage when I look at it in media player either..

any ideas as to what's causing that? It never appears in the final render, so it's not a show-stopper, but it's an annoyance -- anyone got an explanation?

thx much,

ken

Ah yes I see it! You've got the FX button pressed AND you've at one time drawn a section on the Preview Screen . .

wanna know more . . ?

See the button with a circle that is half blue and half grey? Click that and it will go away. This feature lets you compare the output with and without effects. You can drag any rectangular shape you wish in the preview window to have an area shown with effects and the rest without.

. . . and . . what you are seeing INSide the tiny box is the untouched clip . . ie with NO FX treatment to it . .This is very very useful . .

ahhhh.... I see - you're both right! Hey thanks a bunch, that was driving me nuts.... free dvds to both of you, email me ken@daytradinguniversity.com your shipping addresses, if you want one, the writingadwords.com dvd ..

agree that would be a useful feature, to compare with/without fx (I added a bit of brightness + bumped up contrast) ..

main thing is, clicking the button gets rid of it, that was easy...

that's a big help, appreciate it! if only all life's little annoyances (like the avon lady) could be clicked off so easily lol

In other news, here's a sign I made this afternoon, it's over my pc monitors, to motivate me to stay in render mode:

have a great rest of the weekend -
