Smaller Files

I have a 1 min 45 sec video that is 720x480x32 29 fps , 3260 frames. Can I save this in a avi format that can fit on a disk? Right now it is 572MB and way too large. I want to make the size smaller and change the fps to a lower rate. I have tried modifying the save "custom settings" and changing the frame rate but the file does not get smaller. I have seen lots of video on the net that is about the same length and much smaller in size. Also how do I save in MPEG format it is not under the save settings. What affects size the most? (audio, frames, format)? Any suggestions and help would greatly be appreciated.

572MB will easily fit on a CD- is that an option?

What is your end goal - web video? What ype of "disk" are you talking about - Zip, Floppy, CD? You should be able to greatly compress the size of your video by choosing "Make Movie". Then choose the first option "Write your movie to disk". Then under "Format" you should be able to select several different types of rendering. You can also adjust the "Template." Before choosing "Next" check the "Estimated Size" field. Each time you select a new format/template your should see the estimated size change. This should give you a rough idea of the rendered project size. Try the .rm (Real Media) format with different templates. I hope I've understood your question correctly.
