"Smart" Select In Timeline?

I have always found Select In Timeline to be useless, how on earth are you supposed to see the selection in a big project...i sure cant.

is there a way to - go to selected? or anything that would make the feature worthwhile and effective.

Not sure what you mean by "Select in Timeline." Is this a command I've missed? I know there's the Selection Edit tool that allows you to draw a rectangle around selected loops. I use that a lot to move everything on a multitrack project and don't find it hard to use. Just set the cursor where I want to start the selection and then zoom out to see where I want to end it.

Alt + 0 to set focus to Time Line
‘7’ or ‘9’ key (numeric keypad) to “Jump” to the selected Event.
