If there is any other event on the timeline grouped with the video event that you're trying to smart split (e.g. an audio event), make sure that the other event is also highlighted - the smart split menu option should then be available. Alternatively, ungroup the video event and smart split should then work on that event alone.

Look at the tutorial for it. It most likely doesn't work how you think it should work

Right now it is the only event on the timeline, still no smart split option

I have viewed this video several times and followed to the letter. No luck

I viewed the tutorial again. I was not properly selecting the tracks that I want to smart split. All good now.
