SmartRendering Logic in Vegas?

I was wondering if someone might be able to tell me about the SmartRendering logic in Vegas? Particularly when working with MPEG-2. A few months ago I switched from MSP7 to Vegas and am still learning the ins and outs of Vegas.

MSP will SmartRender, or pass through without re-rendering portions of the timeline that do not have any editing moves if the bit rate and other settigs are set exactly the same for CBR clips, or if bit rate is set above source clips with all other settings the same for VBR clips.

I'm hoping someone can save me a bit of testing time here.

Vegas does not smart render MPEG, unfortunately. This is one of the places MSP really shines, IMO. Ulead has always done MPEG very, very well.
