Anybody know why I can't unzip these files? I've tried downloading them separately, and also as a package. My Winzip program works fine on all other zipped files.
If you want a little better quality, you can try using Noise Ninja.
Export an uncompressed AVI.
Use QT Pro to change that into an image sequence. (Don't add alpha channel, that's useless in this case.)
Batch actions it in Photoshop.
Use QT Pro to convert it back, or import and image sequence in Vegas.
Mike crash also has a temporal noise reducer, although that can lead to artifacts/ghosting.
I'd go with the others: Mike crash's filter or Median filter in Vegas (which takes a lot of power on your machine) (hope it's the right one since I'm not working on Vegas right now)
If you want to go beyond what even Mike's excellent filter can do, you might check out some of the techniques I referred to in these posts. For analog video, I use external filters to improve the video. Here's a post describing the technique:
From reading reviews of various noise reduction filters for Photoshop, it seems that Noise Ninja has a slight edge over Grain Surgery.
When used in Photoshop, both only apply spatial noise reduction and not temporal. You can actually combine the two methods in Vegas using Mike Crash's smart de-interlace for its motion detector. I tried this, and it works pretty well (temporal NR works really well on low motion things) although there's a little bit of motion artifacts left behind.
AE now has grain surgery in it and that filter can apply temporal filtering too. Haven't played around with that much.
Other things you can do:
A- Add light... like shoot infrared/night vision.
B- The blue channel is typically the noisiest. You can reduce some extra noise by using the red and green channels to determine luminance.
C- Some "artistic" blur effects can reduce noise.
Then start bringing down the level of Track1 and see the outcome
NOW swap Track 1 and Track 2 . .
This is another approach of the method of getting a sharper focus to something that was .. er .. "soft" = out of focus-ish. I can control grain and the sharpness and generally get out from under!
I like using Tracks as "optical" adjustment layers - bit like adjustment layers in Paint Shop Pro. I'm getting some value from having this approach. As I say, it is starting to look optical to me.
Grazie, what you just said is exactly the method some photo lab buddies used to do under their enlargers to get more detail (actually, but it can be "reversed") with their pictures...
If you didn't know it, well, you certainly got an "instinct" for picture treatment ... which I suspect you got
I like it, I like it, I like it ; )
Thanks FutZ . . I do read and I do watch and read . .. I play around a lot with Vegas.... I just keep finding new and exciting things to do with it . .this happens when I am unfortunately "between" jobs and/or my client is dragging their feet .. soooo... you WILL know when I'm earning and not . .I'm here a lot!
The other thing I've been experimenting with is the option to "gradual" or rather "progressive" colour correction OR over/under exposure by creating masks upon masks by inserting more and more tracks. Then Chroma-keying and inverting masks and blurring .. . maybe with a dash of colour curves . . . I try the lot!
I think you all are just great too!.. . thanks for putting up with me. I know sometimes I'm a PITA . . but I don't let go of a problem until . . well that IS a problem I've got too! Ask DSE or Edward or Kelly or JR . . .
I maybe in London but this Internet stuff is great for getting ideas share!
. .and this is why I have a Love<>Hate thang for Boris Graf3 . .. seesshh . ..
