Snapping Influenced by...?

Where did Vegas' new snapping features come from? Are they influenced by a similar feature from another NLE like Avid or FCP? It would be cool to think Vegas thought this up on their own, but I haven't fiddled with enough NLE's to really know where it came from.

I'm afraid it's ancient - Adobe Premiere 4.2 had this about 10 years ago - not the coloured flashes, but the ability to snap to items on other tracks, using a plain black thin cursor line.
