So OT! Velcro Gender Changers?

OK, who hasn't at one time or another ended up with 2 surfaces which are BOTH hooks or BOTH fluff (fluff?)? Of coourse you have!! You haven't? Then don't read on . . .

Anyways, I've just finished a SpiderBrace project, and idiot that I am, realise that I don't have the opposite Velcro pair for ANOTHER situation for parts of the Velcroed attachments - just, just, please don't ask!

Anyways, I thought, wouldn't it be neat if there WAS such a thing as a Velcro intermediate LAYER accessory? Like, 2-sided HOOKS and 2-sided FLUFF. Yeah OK, I could waste a set of each and GLUE 'em back to back .. but? I thought this would be a neato idea.

No?

Grazie, that post turned out to be far less racy that I expected.

Grazie, I think by broadcasting your brilliant idea to the world, you just lost your rights to patent it! :~)

And I thought this was going to be about some easy to fit prosthesis!

You can buy self adhesive Velcro, stick two male or female strips back to back and you have what you want. You'll probably need to make two kinds to cover all the bases. One for male to male and one for female to female.

Personally I'm a male to female kind of guy but whatever floats your boat is cool with me.

The best Velcro stuff I've come across isn't Velcro at all, I think it's make by 3M and it uses tiny nylon mushrooms on both sides. It doesn't stick like Velcro does, you need to give this stuff a hard push to get it to click into together and then it's locked tight with no lateral slop. Way better than Velro for may things. But it's hard to buy, Photon Beard use it to hold the batteries onto their Hyperlight, only place I've seen it used and I can't track down a supplier.

Gotcha though!! Made you read it!! LOL!

Patents . .. spilling outta me pockets .. all the way to Social Security.

Good idea though?

Gracie:
I thought you were going to tell us about some appendage that could be attached or removed (as ones gender preference changed) with Velcro. A very disappointing post.

There'll be Blue Birds Over, the White Cliffs of Dover...

Now that's what I call a Gender Changer :~)

I think a couple of states here in the US just passed constitutional amendments against that sort of thing ;-)

Bob,

The stuff you're thinking of is 3M's "Dual Lock(TM)" and I agree with you completely that it ROCKS. :-)

3M has Informational pages on their site for those of you that want more information. (I tried creating links in my post, but it didn't work... please e-mail me if you really, REALLY want those monstrously long URLs.)

It isn't inexpensive... but whenever I can justify the cost, I use it. It's about a ba'googleplex times stronger than Velcro even if it's more difficult to find. But that's one of the beauties of the Internet, n'est pas? Of course, I'm also one of those guys that swears by Permacell Gaffers' Tape (in spite of the fact that it's so much more expensive) and use it in those thousand-and-one uses for which most would use "duct tape". ;-D

Sorry for the blather... G'Luck, Grazie. :-)

Thank you, I'll do some Googling.

If anyone's trying to find this Radio Spares stock it in a variety of sizes. It isn't cheap and you might find someone who stocks it cheaper than RS but RS are in most parts of the planet.

It sure does work very well from my experience. For holding two rigid things together nothing beats it.

Long? You mean like this?
Dual Lock.

BTW, I agree about using real gaffer tape. Duct tape is a poor imitation. My apologies to Red Green (a Canadian comedian who called it the "Handyman’s Secret Weapon") for that comment :-)

Local: dual lock

Another : not local

The second is definitely the 3M product.

Not at all like that. You see, I failed utterly when I tried to create hyperlinks in my post. And speaking of things that rock, Red Greene... one of my favorite shows. :-D

Thanks, Mike.

If you're a Red Green fan, you must be a Canadian :-)

Red "Duct Tape" Green says:
"If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy."
