Software based TV simulator wanted for preview

Is there such an application somewhere out there?

What I want is an application running on my PC, which can load my DVD and then allow me to change the settings in the same way I can on a physical TV-set.

I have DVD Architect, but it requires an external monitor and an additional PC card installed.
In other words - I want to check how my video looks (approximately) on a real TV - without using a real TV :-)

You won't be able to do that because aTV monitor and a computer monitor are two different animals.

I just used DVD-RW's, very handy.

but doesn't DVDA output via firewire? If so you would just need a firewire-TV converter.

Hm.. I think Adobe Premiere can do something like this.. Or maybe not? In any case, even if the monitors are different animals, all I want to know is how it looks, how images are stretched / compressed and so on.

This is no problem to simulate on a PC.

When you said "settings" I presumed you were referring to chroma, contrast, gamma, etc.

Like the good Friar said, simply use a DVD that you can rewrite.

Just checked. DVDA uses firewire out. So get a firewire to TV converter (like the Pyro) & it will work perfectly. Then you can also convert analog to DV with that device.

Just R Click the Preview Window in Vegas and select Simulate Device Aspect. Probably not so much of a thing if you're only doing 4:3 NTSC, a really big thing if 16:9 PAL.

What he wants to see is how the image looks in underscan. Unfortunately, that sort of cropping varies from one TV to the next so it can't really be simulated.

The other problem he's having is a slight pillarbox effect because his source material was 640x480 from a cellphone and his output format is SD.

Maybe I should have specified which part of his question I was replying to :)

"all I want to know is how it looks, how images are stretched / compressed and so on."

You could keep everything in title safe areas and you would be golden. I believe you can turn them on in DVD Architect?
