Software compatibility issue?!

Folks,

I primarily use a Dell desk-top, 2GHz, 1 Gig RAM, 120Gig (7200rpm) HD for running Vegas 5, Sonar 2, and several other apps. Since dumping the bundled rip-off VideoWave NLE (puke....!) and buying Vegas Video 3 and more recently buying/installing Vegas 5, I've never had any trouble with any of the major software applications. Vegas, especially, has been a revelation--I use it all the time and would never, never give it up!

I just installed another very cool application called ASAP (no........, not as in "I'm A SAP"...it's All Sports Analysis Program: Basically, it can capture video, de-interlace for slo-mo, has interesting drawing tools for studying anatomical angles during a rapid sports event like bat swing, pitch motion, or golf swing). However....trouble!! I can open the new application and do a very limited few things; however, I cannot use the Video Capture function or even import old .avi files for analysis without the program crashing--it simply tells me it must close and then makes good on the threat. I have deleted and re-installed the software a few times to no avail.

The ASAP software developer is a really helpful guy and very knowledgeable--he's answered every e-mail promptly with lots of good suggestions but he hasn't encountered this specific problem before. His latest suggestion was, try ASAP on another computer that doesn't have Vegas loaded. I did this--actually deleted good old Vegas Video 3 from my laptop (where it didn't run very well anyway due to a snail-like HP hard drive) and loaded ASAP.

Long story short--this worked. ASAP opens and I can access every function without crashing it. However, I've got to get ASAP running correctly on the desk-top in order to find true happiness in life--the laptop solution just won't work for a variety of reasons.

What I'm hoping to learn from this post is: (1) Is there anything obvious to any of you folks that would make two different NLEs like Vegas and ASAP incompatible (it's strange because I certainly haven't noticed any reciprocal problems with Vegas since ASAP has been loaded, and I never have both apps open at the same time) (2) Whether the answer is obvious or not, is there anything that I can try in order to solve the problem on the desk-top computer?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this and help out.

Best regards,

Lee

Hi Folks,

Please forgive me for adding to my own string in order--partly--to get it some attention.

I should definitely have added to the original message that opinions need not be tied to Vegas-ASAP compatibility. Actually, I somewhat doubted whether anyone on this site would have heard of ASAP before now.

However, co-habitation problems between Vegas and any other NLE might be of interest.

Thanks again,

Lee

Never heard of ASAP....but I do know that MGI/Roxio plays hell with various codecs, overwriting things, etc. You might want to try reinstalling Vegas or doing a repair install of Vegas so it's the last thing in the chain. Avid, Vegas, Premiere, Ulead, AIST all living side by side on my testing system. I did just look at ASAP's website, and it doesn't look like he worries too much about what else is going on, so I doubt he's paying attention to whatever or whomever his software affects.
So, I'd recommend the first mentioned option, do a repair install.

Thank you very much, Spot. I will try that and post the result. I know the ASAP guy will also be very interested if your suggestion works.
