I've been wondering about it too. If all else fails the DMCA does allow people to make purchased software work after the company no longer supports it - if you know what I mean...

Historically when Sonic Foundry and SCS, those specific products were supported for the current version and one version back.  This pertains to obtaining product support, not the ability to activate or use the product.  With very few exceptions older version products still activate and people can use them.  I have generated activation codes for people using products created in the late 90s this week even...
