Software updates

I am just wondering about Sony's software updates? I opened and account with Sony Media Software and then went to the my software page and saw what looks like software updates available. So I download them and it does not seem to do anything that I can tell Movie Studio lets me do a repair or uninstall only and DVD Architect tells me it sees and earliar version then does an update, but When I go to the help/ about on both program menues they are the same as the original installs were?
I am running DVD Architect Studio version 3 build 51 and Movie Stuio +DVD version 6 build 43. My question is this: Are these the latest versions, or am I missing something? I am used to seeing the version and or build number change when I do a software update.

Thanks I have everything updated now. I think I also figured out what "I" was doing wrong. I must have been going for the wrong updates.

Chien,

Thanks for the info on updates. I wasn't aware of it. Is there any info on what's in the updates, to let us know whether they're worth downloading?

I just bought VMS+DVDAS, and I'm running VMS 6.0 build 43, DVDAS 3.0 build 51.

I too would like to know if downloading and installing the latest software updates is worth it.
I ask primarily because I haven't noticed any 'problems'.

From the release notes...

Vegas Movie Studio 6.0a (Platinum)

VR-mode discs are now supported when importing video from a finalized Sony DVD Handycam® camcorder disc. Please see Known Issues for additional information.
A problem has been fixed that could cause problems when reading AVI files with MP3-encoded audio.
New widescreen and DVD templates have been added to the New Project Wizard.
A Use widescreen DVD format check box has been added to the Burn it to DVD portion of the Make Movie Wizard.

DVD Architect 3.0a (Platinum)

When you use the Make Movie Wizard in Vegas Movie Studio to send a project to DVD Architect Studio, the Vegas Movie Studio project properties are now inherited by the DVD Architect Studio project.
A problem has been fixed that could cause problems when reading AVI files with MP3-encoded audio.
A bug has been fixed that caused theme export to fail when overwriting an existing theme.
A bug has been fixed that could cause a crash when deleting files from the Project Overview window with a track selected in the Timeline window.
A bug has been fixed that could prevent some DVD Architect projects from opening.
An Enable progressive render of DVD menus check box has been added to the General tab of the Preferences dialog:

When the check box is selected, all noncompliant menus in your project will be rendered as progressive-scan video.

When the check box is cleared, all noncompliant menus in your project will be rendered as interlaced video.

If you use a background video in your menus, we recommend rendering the video in progressive-scan format before adding it to your project and leaving the Enable progressive render of DVD menus check box selected. Progressive-scan menus will provide the sharpest-looking text and highest level of DVD player compatibility.

Note: Some DVD players will not display the last frame of a menu correctly when using interlaced background video.

If you change the setting of this check box after preparing your project, the change will not take effect until you clear the Enable smart prepare check box.

ducnbyu posted the release notes. These are available for your perusal at the update download page. Generally speaking, there is almost never *not* a reason to update. They're free, the fix lots of bugs, and occasionally make things faster, easier, and add a few new features.

If you read these forums a lot you'll often notice people complaining about a problem that has already been fixed. If they had installed the update they wouldn't have had that problem.

Patch resolves among others, a "memory leak" that kept the memory allocated after a process completed, until the project was closed on the desktop.
