Sold out of date VMS

I bought Vegas Movie Studio +DVD about a week before Christmas in order to edit HDV from a Sony HDR-HC1 camera.

I have only just installed this on my PC as I wanted to first carry out some hardware upgrades and free up some space.

After the install I checked to see if there were any updates and foud that I have v6.0b build 126 but that v7 had been out for a couple of months before my purchase (there was only one version on sale at the PC World I made my purchase from).

How annoyed shoudl I be about this? Am I able to upgrade to v7? Should I upgrade to v7?

Contact customer service and ask. No one in this forum can help you with this issue. All i can tell you is that i have heard of a few cases where SONY has offered a free upgrade when this happens, but only they can tell you if you qualify.

My experience with sony is that if you have proof of purchase and the date they will upgrade for free. I got upgraded to vegas 7 from six
as 7 came out about 30 days after i bought six.
And you are talking about platinum version 6 i hope to 7 as
the regular movie studio is still at six.
Good luck

Yes it is the Platinum version as I want to edit HD.

Worst case it looks like the upgrade is $50 but I didn't know if the upgrade was worthwhile.

Has anyone else upgraded and was it worth it?

Yes, I upgraded because VMS7 Platimum has AC-3 (stereo and 5.1) encoding support, and a newer version of DVDAS (3 -> 4).

You can still put your cam into the downconvert mode, capture DV and learn how to use VMS for editing, exporting & file conversions. Project workflow is pretty much the same as HDV except if your heavily editing HDV you may want to create a proxy (intermediate) file to make the edits.

You can download and install the VMS7_Platinum trial version which will work with your camcorder for 30 days.
VMS8_Platinum is due out soon so I would use the trial of VMS8_platinum when it's released. Decide between 7 or 8 platinum and upgrade or buy the full retail version.
