[solved] event and track FX spill over mask limit

Mindmatter wrote on 8/10/2017, 10:02 AM

Hi all,

I ran into this weird issue - I have 3 clips playing next to each other, limited by a mask so they don't overlap in their respective cookie cuts. ( see pic ). In principle, it works just fine, but the FX , namely the exposure and brigtnhess correction, spill over the mask limit and are visible in the adjacent clip. It makes no difference wether the FX is applied on event or track level.

Switching off the FX makes the overlap invisible.

When I set the mask to "apply to FX", the mask is lost entirely and the whole frame is visible. Is that normal? is there any way around this?

thanks!

FX on, apply mask to FX mask set to "no"

FX on, apply mask to FX mask set to "yes"

I did a quickie four track timeline with 3 of the tracks using the cookie cutter and one for background. I could not duplicate your issue with FX spilling over .. It makes no sense to me that they would .. but maybe I'm not doing it the way you are ... Can you do a screen shot of your timeline?

"Can you do a screen shot of your timeline?"

Or even better: Share that project file?

Thanks xberk, makes absolutely no sense to me either, and it happened before, too.

I'm wondering if it's some sort of bug...here's a screenshot.

Marco, the project is huge, would you need the media with it??

No media needed, so it should not be that huge. The project file itself seldom exceed several MB.

I wrote you a PM, only image files can be uploaded here.

Got your project file and I'm able to repro the issues which seems like to be two different things.

First of all, to me it looks like there is a bug in ColorFast (and ColorFast 2).
Using ColorFast's "Exposure" seem to affect alpha values of the frame which should not happen. At the moment I can't repro this kind of issue with any other setting of ColorFast nor with another plug-in like Levels FX, LAB Adjust FX or HSL FX. Same exposure issue appears when using ColorFast 2 instead.

The solution for this issue is to put Pan/Crop after ColorFast in the FX window.

I think the other issue (what happens when you turn on "Apply mask to FX") is expected behaviour because the mask would either affect the frame or the FX but not both together.
