I've been pounding my head over this for weeks and finally figured it out after following all of the tips and several restore points and uninstall/reinstall.
There are several threads about turning off the GPU, etc. if you have an NVIDIA card, but then I saw something about rolling back the IntelHD driver. Well I don't use that at all just the NVIDIA. So after it crashed 10 times in a row and I couldn't get the reset to work using the CTRL-SHIFT combo, I decided to REMOVE the IntelHD Driver. BOOM- Program started right up with no crashes. So it was the not being used at all, but still there IntelHD card that was causing the issue.
