Some New Q's From A New Vegas User

Hi guys,

I play a game called Counter-strike, and I make videos for the clan I am in..

Vegas is one heck of an awesome program, I just need to ask a few questions.

1: I want to make it, so when I start my video, It's splits screens, like I have one screen in the upper right, and one in lower left, I also want to make them overlap (I'm saying, taking 2 videos, and making them play in the same screen, so to speak)

2: Not sure, but can vegas do anything with .dem files? .dem files are the files used when you record yourself playing CS (For matches we do this.) And all the demos I have and am making a highlight video. Is there anyway I can open those demos up and use them that way (I use a program called fraps, but It's very low quality at full screen (1152x864.) So i wanted to see if I can make the quality much better

3. Is there ANY way I can zoom in on a clip, I can have the clip and go to Video Event Pan/Corp and zoom it in, but it doesn't do it when i play the file..

Any help here would be GREATLY appreciated!!

BTW - Vegas Video changed my outlook on video programs, it is truly exceptional! Thanks!

~Ryan~

Pan/Crop and Track Motion are your friends. They will allow you to do what you want. Splitscreen is also called Picture-in-Picture or PIP

Go here and read about PIP. It's collection of Vegas Tips.

If you overlap your video, the top layer will block out your bottom layer, however, you change the opacity of your top click to let the bottom layer bleed through, but the top layer will not be as bright.

Vegas can't use the dem files. This are just files of player data that CS/HL interperates. You'll have to get it into individual frames or record it onto DV/VHS tape then capture it. I don't knowabout the program you use, but in the video works the res you specified is pretty good (DV video is at 720x480).

Vegas is very nice to edit game footage with too (I use Q3 personaly). You can do lots with the sound too. :)

Just a plug for the newsletters--They're very helpful. Excellent resource if you're new to Vegas.

How do i Zoom in? and make it stay?

Just figured out what you are doing I think. You are just zooming in the display of the photo within the pan/crop tool... you are not actually "zooming in"... er..if you get what I mean.

You have to "grab" onto the corners of the photo and re-size it. Doing so will show you the zoomed in (or out) frame within the preview display window.

Yeah, What I want to do, is make it so the middle of the picture, is bigger..

Its a sniping picture, and I want the middle of it to be zoomed in so you can see the headshot better :)

Yeah... so how about trying to grab one of the corners (with the mouse?) of the box that surrounds the frame and then dragging it inwards so the box gets smaller. The result should be that you zoom in to get the center of your photo taking up the whole video.

Not sure what you mean by "sniping"

If you still don't get it then... try some of the tutorials on Billyboys site. Especially this one on Pan/crop
