some questions

I use a Tascam us-428 sound card-controller with vegas 5,, Is there any way to make the timeline slow down when you use the ffwd button? I'm used to using the jog wheel or the ffwd button and the time line scrolls realtime, In vegas I hit the ffwd button and the time line is off to the races then I hit the ffwd button to stop,,,,,---- The other day and today the words External control,, under options just vanished,, I mean it's not there,, I spent about an half hour scratching my head, It's has to be a bug, I closed out of vegas,,re-opened and there it was,,-------- when I have snap to grid engaged it doesn't perform as it does in acid,,,meaning that in Acid the curser snaps to the grid, in vegas,,The curser doesn't snap only the blocks of audio or video snap,, is this correct?----- when I preview loops in the explorer window they don't play in sync with the project,, is this also correct? someone please tell me it's me ,,it's my computer or something,,, these are routine functions that should be working properly......

ffwd is "Fast Forward", so I don't understand what you mean in that you want it to slow down while fast forwarding.

Can't explain why the external control options menu disappeared. The only thing I can imagine is that only ONE instance of Vegas can access external control. So, if you launch Vegas, that first launch will see external control services. If you launch a second instance, that second instance cannot see or user external control.

Vegas' explorer preview is not sync'd to the main time line like ACID's is. Never has been. It is a simple preview. This functionality may be added to a future version of Vegas as the ACID loop integration progresses.

When I push the ffwd button on my Tascam us-428,, in other programs the timeline moves in increments (ticks, beats or measures)or I can use the jog wheel in the same manner,, In vegas when I use the jog wheel or push the ffwd botton the timeline continues moving,,rather quickly and doesn't stop until it recieves a command ,,,so in order to move in increments I have to continue pushing the ffwd button..seems awkward compared to how it functions in other apps,,is there a setting I can adjust for the timeline to either slow down or move in increments? AS for the vanishing words (External contoller),,it happened again and I'm trying to (catch it) when it happens,,, when I do ,,I'll let you know,, There are definite in-compatibility issues with my tascam and vegas5 ,, (maybe bandwidth related) some times vegas freezes when I use the jog wheel,,,,, sometimes it works and other times it doesn't........ I'm in the process of doing a test,, I performed a full recovery on one of my laptops,,installing the original Acid 4.0,sound forge 6 and vegas 4, I have recently produced two songs,,(24 tracks in Acid-Vegas ,,wave files and loops)no nuances,no spiked cpu, no expectations of what should function,,,of dampering my workflow,,,

It sounds like what you're trying to do, instead of using the FF and RW buttons in Vegas you need to use the ShuttleFWD and ShuttleREW for your shuttle wheel, and then use the ScrubFWD and ScrubREW for the transport keys.

I can program the Shuttle feature to the jog wheel and it responds in increments but I don't want to change the pitch and tempo.,, The Scrub ffwd and rrwd doesn't work,,I get no response. For now ,I'm going to stick with the keyboard,, Ya know how the timeline moves when you use the arrow keys on the keyboard? Thats how I was expecting my controller to perform ,,it does in other apps...Thanks,,,,

The FFWD in Vegas is implemented like a real-world tape machine works. Vegas does FFWD like PTools does. Also, the desired mapping would be to press FFWD/REW and Vegas does this. Release the FFWD/REW buttons, and it stops. It sounds like you have mapped toggle FFWD vs Start FFWD and Stop FFWD to the 428's FFWD button.

You can, if you'd like, assign the ffwd and rew buttons to move the cursor by pixel, grid, frame, etc. These are all mappable functions in the generic control driver.

Depending on how the devices implements the jog wheel, the sensativity can be effected. We are looking at a more consistent approach to dealing with jog and shuttle behavior between all the different devices that exist. However, the only ideal solution is for Tascam to develope a driver specifically for the 428 that maps is particular hardware behavior to Vegas' defined functionality.

Thanks,, I've tried many configuations, I'm not pleased with the way tascam works with vegas. As I told rednroll .I'll use the keyboard,
