Some questions about Vegas 4 Video

1 - A question about footage management: I have footage from a project captured in a disc. The clips in the disc are mixtured with others clips from other projects.
So, to organise my clips (afterwards, after having captured) I create, in a same disc, a new folder with another name and move all the clips from a project in this folder. This is to facilitate the deleting of those clips at the end of a project...
But, big surprise, when I come back to my Vegas Project, all the files are off line, although the media exist in the disc. Why? Can't I reorganise my files after capture?

2 - How to recapture the media off line in a project? Is it only possible from the bin with the all clip not edited? Or is it possible to recapture the clips from the timeline and only the edited foortage?
I still did not understand very well the system to delete the clips; when it is only in the project or in the disc, preserving the datas of the clip or not etc.
Can you give me some explanations to manage the footage?

3 - I have some problems with the simple capture option:
Ex: Capture all clip from current location or Capture when I press the record button.
When I stop the capture, the box is empty, no clip have been captured! So, untill now I only used the advanced capture option with mark IN and OUT, and the log files. What is the problem?

4 - A question about the sound envelopp: How to copy/paste in another location in the timeline a piece of edited video, PRESERVING the sound volume enveloppe variations??

5 - A question about subtitles: I recently subtitled a film in Vegas 4 ( I used the insert text media) and I noticed that when the subtitle appears, it increases the brightness of the picture. And it is very visible in a dark picture. So it is a very big problem. I have the impression that the subtitles also reduce the quality of the picture (by that phenomenon of brightness increasing!). The picture has more grains; is less defined?
I also noticed that when I create the title, the brightness effect appears when I add a border to the title. I made a white writing with black borders.
What the problem?
Is that signify that you can't subtitles a film preserving the quality in Vegas?

5. don't use full white 255,255,255 but something more like 200,200,200 or another color ..

adjust your ntsc preview monitor as it prob. isn't set correctly ..

Personally, I use new folders on the hard drive to differentiate between clips. If you move a clip and open a project Vegas will look in the old location. All that is necessary is to point Vegas to the new folder and all will be fine.

When a clip cannot be found, that is one of the options: Mark the clip for recapture (or something like that). Then it's simply a matter of going back into the capture program and telling it to capture that clip.

3 - I have some problems with the simple capture option:

I almost ALWAYS use batch (advanced) capture anyway. However one setting that *may* solve your problem is by turning OFF the "Minimum clip length" option.

4 - A question about the sound envelopp: How to copy/paste in another location in the timeline a piece of edited video, PRESERVING the sound volume enveloppe variations??

A possibility: Duplicate the current track to a new track. Then you can slide the duplicated version to the new location. If you have the "lock envelopes to events" option turned on, the points should follow the event.

1 and 2) When you change the location of your media by putting it in different directories, Vegas cannot find it. A dialog box will pop up asking how you want to handle this. You can have it search through your drives, or direct it to a specific location.

Once it finds the first clip it is looking for, it will also see that the other missing clips are in the same location and ask if you want to use that location for the other missing clips as well.

If you really have deleted a piece of media off your drives and want to recapture, right-click on its icon in the media pool, and choose recapture. The capture utility will come up and ask you to insert the correct tape. Then it will find the media and recapture it.

To delete media, right click on it in the media pool and choose either to delete from the project, or delete from the project AND the hard drive.

4) If you have Lock Envelopes to Events turned on, your envelopes will be copied with the media. The button ios along the top and looks like a lock with three nodes around it.

Hope that helps.
