Some quick advice needed...

I am about to place an order for a DVD burner. Googlegear has the Pioneer DVR-A06, a drive roundly praised in these forums, for $257. They also have a Sony DWU10A/B2 for $225 - of which I have read nothing.

Both are 4x in speed (DVD-R & DVD+R) and both are "do-everything" in format (DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW).

The Pioneer comes with ULead DVD Workshop AC3 SE, Video Studio 7.0 SE DVD and DVD Picture Show 2.0 SE. (- All "light" versions, I suppose?)

The Sony comes with bundled software as well - but I'm not sure what (Googlegear is supposed to call me back on that).

BIG DIFFERENCE - the Pioneer has a 2 MB data buffer where the Sony has a whopping 8 MB data buffer.

Anyone have any experience with this Sony drive?

sdgates,
I have a Sony DRU-510A and I can't complain. Except for price I don't know how it compares to the Pioneer though. PC World magazine did a review of DVD writers in a recent issue. You can find it at pcworld.com.

Have a look here for reviews of may dvd+-rw writers

I have a pioneer dvr-104. It's not fast but it does the job pretty well.
