Sonic Foundry programs not seeing drives

Apologies for the cross forum posting but:

I have Sound Forge 6e, CD Architect 5, DVD Architect 1.0a and Vegas 4.

I also have an LG DVD Drive and a Sony DRU-500AX (internal R/WR).

Everything I have is fully up to date.

I also have Nero and DLA (the DVD re-writable software that came with the Sony drive)

Due to an incompatibility between Nero and DLA, which was causing the drives to lock up, I therefore uninstalled Nero. The result: none of the Sonic Foundry programmes could see either drive, either to read from, or to write to, despite uninstalling and re-installing all 3 (SF) programmes.

I then re-installed Nero, and, hey presto! The Sonic Foundry programmes can once again see both drives.

What on earth is going on?

I don't know but I had some problems when I first got my Sony DRU500A and on the Video University board was told to dump the Sony Software as it caused conflicts. I dumped the Sony stuff and no problems since.

You're right. DLA hangs my computer if there is a disk in the drive on bootup, and simply will not work. I've removed it, installed the aspi drivers from Adaptec.com, which seems to have cured the problem.
Since re-installing Nero (which helped Forge, Vegas, DVD and CD architect *see* the drives again), I've tried two diagnostic programs, one which tells me my aspi drivers are incorrectly installed, the other tells me that they *are* correctly installed, but that there are no Nero aspi drivers installed.

Phew! The main thing is that I am once again able to burn CDs, important for my clients, and DVDs, important for my own stumbling steps in, as yet, a new hobby.
Computers eh?
