Sonic Foundry programs not seeing drives

Apologies for the cross forum posting but:

I have Sound Forge 6e, CD Architect 5, DVD Architect 1.0a and Vegas 4.

I also have an LG DVD Drive and a Sony DRU-500AX (internal R/WR).

Everything I have is fully up to date.

I also have Nero and DLA (the DVD re-writable software that came with the Sony drive)

Due to an incompatibility between Nero and DLA, which was causing the drives to lock up, I therefore uninstalled Nero. The result: none of the Sonic Foundry programmes could see either drive, either to read from, or to write to, despite uninstalling and re-installing all 3 (SF) programmes.

I then re-installed Nero, and, hey presto! The Sonic Foundry programmes can once again see both drives.

What on earth is going on?

It sounds like remnants of Nero may still be conflicting. You could download and install RegCleaner:

http://www.webmasterfree.com/regcleaner.html

Then uninstall Nero and DLA and use RegCleaner to remove all traces of the two programs.
Boot in SafeMode and look in the Device Manager to see if any duplicate instances of the drives or their controllers occur. Delete them.

Boot normally and let Windows replace the drives in the Device Manager. Make sure DMA is enabled.

Install DLA again. If it still doesn't work you can try RecordNow Max.

As an alternative there is RecordNow Max.

Most likely when you uninstalled Nero, it took out your ASPI drivers. You should be able to get standalone ASPI's from adaptec.com if you don't want Nero or Easy CD on your system.

This seems to have sorted the problem, thanks.

Nero usually is fine. But when you install "IN CD" it will lock up all your drives
and drive you nuts and will not let anything else function properly. You do not
need "IN CD" for anything so blow it out.
