Sony- are you listening?

Dear Sony,
I don't know if a issue with Vegas 5 like I'm about to explain will ever be addressed because it only appears under very specific circumstances. Unfortunately for me it's very common due to my workflow and editing style.

The bug or malfunction i'm seeing is when you add 1:85:1 cropping to a clip (or 16x9 for that matter) and animate it. with pan crop. In other words add a software zoom or subtle twist to the shot. Anytime this is used in conjunction with the "Glow" filter it creates a very bizzare looking flickering towards the top of the image where it touches the mask.

It's very easy to reproduce. Simply take a clip with well exposed highlights (one that the "Glow" filter will compliment) add the 1:85:1 crop and animate it either with a zoom or a zoom twist. Now add the glow filter (can be done in reverse order- same result is yielded). After you render it out you'll see the flickering I'm seeing at the top of the frame.

Now I know there is probably a small percentage of users that will actually encounter this issue but I figured if it was something that "could" be addressed in a future patch I'd be incredibly greatful.

As it is now during my montage segments (ones that have effects and cropping) I have to separate all the clips that are "animated" in pan/crop and render then as separate AVIs without any cropping- re-import and THEN apply the cropping/animation. Very time consuming. Is there some algorithm or attribute that the programers can tweak to fix this?

Best Regards,
Glen M Elliott

Glen, I've followed your description to the letter, and am not seeing what you are seeing. Are your highlights illegal perchance? Could it be a field issue?
I used a photograph, a video, and HDV footage. On the photo, I saw line flicker that is no different from any normal photo flicker on a high res. Adding a touch of unsharp mask fixed that for me. Plus the normal Force Resample.
Did you render to Best? If it's got photos, I would.

Are you adding 1) Glow (white soft preset...notched down a bit in intensity) 2) A 1:85:1 crop...and then ALSO animating it. Make it start in the default 1:85:1 position then zoom in and twist (or something like that.

I can make a VEG file and you can plug your own footage in. And/Or I can create a short MPG of the visual disturbance I'm seeing.

Thanks for the reply Spot.

Try hitting the pre /post toggle on the glow effect , may help.

Try Winrock's suggestion- apply the event glow pre-crop.

Is the pre-post toggle in the keyframe track area of the effect? I'll give it a shot- thanks.
