Sony AVC- Audio Issues...

jrazz wrote on 3/21/2010, 2:26 PM
I have never had any luck with the Sony AVC template. Either it will crash within the first several minutes of rendering or I get garbage for audio if I choose the mp4 setting. If I choose the M2TS setting the picture is garbage and crashes VLC as soon as I open it.

Footage is straight from the HVR-A1U (M2T file) and the only thing added is a wav file created in Cinescore.

The mp4 file video plays fine and looks great- it is just the audio. The audio is outdoors- birds chirping, a child playing, etc. with hickory dickory dock as the wav file from Cinescore (it does it without the cinescore wav file as well) and the rendered file sounds like some sort of heavy metal band. The audio section in the render template is left at its defaults under mp4.

What output are you looking for... M2TS... MP4??

"The audio section in the render template is left at its defaults under mp4."

That might be your problem right there.

Then again which version of Vegas and more details in general would help. Most of my recent uploads to Youtube were done with the Sony AVC encoder in V9.0b and as Youtube audio goes don't sound too bad at all. Generally I encode them at 10Mbps and set audio sample rate to 48KHz and up the bitrate a lot.

I would be happy with either m2ts or mp4 although I was going for mp4. I have Vegas9pro rendition c. However, I don't think I have ever been able to use this render template since they added it to Vegas. It could be a computer issue but every other template I ever wanted to render to worked just fine so that seems unlikely. It would seem more plausible that the codec doesn't like the input file.

I will upload a sample clip that I am using as well as part of the output using the default settings for sony avc in case anyone wants to try and duplicate my results.

Here are some snippets from the files I have on the timeline including the sfl file.

If anyone would be kind enough to give them a go and let me know if you have any issues with those file it would be appreciated. Like I said earlier, those files work just fine with every other format I have encoded to. And again, this codec is the only one I have ever had issues with within Vegas.

By the way, give the files another 10 minutes to upload just to be on the safe side.

I get error 404 when trying your M2T file... fix please!
jrazz wrote on 3/22/2010, 8:26 AM
It should be fixed now. I packaged them all together as a zip file. I think the issue is that my web hosting company doesn't recognize the extension .m2t. I will need to ask them to add that to their list of available extensions.

Only had time to test the MP4 render.... I get the same thing... error during render. The error however occurs at the same place every time so that to me says there is something wrong with the files and not vegas.

At first I thought it was a sample problem (the music is at 44.1 and the audio at 48) so I upsampled the music to 48... but alas... same error.

Haven't had time to test anything else but I'll try later.

Thanks Rob. Would anyone else care to try this? I would like to point Sony to this thread when I submit a ticket.

Exactly which template are u using?

The only sony avc template that gives me an mp4 render, is the internet hd 30p....

Also mediainfo says the framerate is 59.94?
jrazz wrote on 3/23/2010, 10:38 AM
AVCHD 1440x1080-60i is the template that has the ='s next to it and that is the one I was using. I have issues with the m2ts as well as the mp4 encodes from this.

Well,

I don't have that particular template, with the ='s... ??

I rendered out the files (AVCHD 1440x1080-60i) you linked to, & it came out good...

When I right click on your test MP4, & under properties, under type, it says mainconcept avc...

Whereas my render says, mpeg2 transport stream...

Is the mainconcept avc the difference maker here?....
jrazz wrote on 3/23/2010, 3:05 PM
I'm not sure. Mainconcept is another AVC encoder available in Vegas, but it was not what was used to encode this file. The Sony codec was used.

I'll check and see what the properties say on mine. I bet yours is missing the ='s as your project properties are not set to 1440x1080-60i. This should make no difference as long as you used the same template (which you said you did).

Mine says MainConcept AVC/AAC as well.

Would someone mind taking a Sony AVC rendered file and checking the properties to see what it says under "Type"?

Edit: Please make sure you choose mp4 as the file type under the system tab as opposed to m2ts as I believe this is why Tumbleweed's file showed up as a transport stream.

Thanks,

Ok....

You're right, I changed the proj properties & saw the =....

I was able to finally match all of the properties, using the default setting under the sony avc tab, render an mp4 at 15mbps, & it came out good....
I wonder what gives?...
jrazz wrote on 3/23/2010, 5:20 PM
Did your mp4 show up as mainconcept? If so, then it must be an issue with the installation or my machine and the software. If you used my media and produced an acceptable result then I can rule out the media and narrow it down to my machine and/or the software.

It is hard to think that it is the machine though as everything else works completely fine concerning Vegas.

Let me know about your properties on the mp4 and thanks again for testing this and giving me a hand.

Yes, the mp4 shows up as mainconcept, under type...

You're welcome....
