Ah, two competing formats: the one with polarized light and the one that Sony is backing with electronic shutters in the glasses. The only thing I'm sure of is that the one I'll decide to buy is the one that will most likely lose the battle.
After looking around, I found at least 5 incompatible systems being pushed for 3DV. I expect there are more. The one seen in most theaters which uses polarized glasses is owned by a company which is pushing special electronic glasses. Seems that the simple polarized glasses that work so well in the theatre don't work at all on TV. Either that are it won't make enough money for them. Other companies say that they CAN make polarized glasses work. Who knows? Sad.
I have little faith that I will be alive long enough to see 3DV standardized and universally available. That, too, is sad. My children and I really like what we see in the theaters, now that the novelty has worn off and the effects aren't so exaggerated as they were a few years ago.
