I haven't had these problems. Are you saying that these isuues occur when burning from DVDA2, but not when you use Nero?
Dunn wrote on 2/1/2005, 1:31 PM
Correct, I have new Sony and Pioneer burners. I burn at 2X on 8X media. I like the ease of authoring but it is not much on the burn.

I had lots of problems burning with DVDA 1 and always used Nero instead. Now with DVDA 2 i burn straight from DVDA 2 all the time with no problems.

I have had endless problems burning with DVDA2, I have to use nero if I want a DVD that will work.

chienworks, what speed do you burn at? how long are the programs you burn,(average are they 10 min. or 40 min. etc.) what media do you use? Your burns play well on standard consumer DVD players...no problems?

I do most of my burning at 4x. The videos tend to range from 1 hour to 2 hours 45 minutes. Lately i've been using a lot of Fuji and Memorex because that's what is on sale. Both +R and -R seem to work well. I haven't had a single disc returned in over a year now, and i've probably delivered 300 or more.

I'm using a generic +/- burner that appears as an NEC model in the list of burners in the software.

I had more problems with DVDA1. With DVDA2 I have occasional problems. If I have a pronlem it is a burn fail right after the lead in. I noticed this happens with the native XP burner as well on CDs often. I cannot recall if I ever have had a problem using nero.

I have had the same problems lately with DvdA2. (Skips and Freezes) I thought it might be my burner but I'm not sure.
What do yall think?

Thanks

I have always used dvd complete to burn and have never had a problem. I just burned a 1 hour project for a guy and it freezed up really bad (not usable at all). I tried burning it again on dvdA2, it was better but still freezes occasional on certain players. This is a new problem for me. Is this strictly a burning problem or rendering problem? Can the quality of the video actually have an effect on this? What do you guys do to rectify the problem?
Thanks for your time

What bitrates are you rendering the mpg2 at?

Render the mpg2 IN VEGAS, dont go over 8,000,000 bitrate, then burn it in DVDA2.
hodges wrote on 2/6/2005, 12:20 PM
I render my projects under the mpeg2 24frames Video Stream...The max bitrate is 8,000,000 and I still have problems. Freezes and skips. HELP

LET ME KNOW PLEASE
Thanks-

with DVDA1...

it would burn a short project (say, 10 minutes) and the bottom of the disc would look like half of the disc was used!

I'd burn the same project (prepared with DVDA) with DVD decryptor or nero, and it'd turn out a lot smaller, and run perfectly. The DVDA versions would work on 1 out of 10 DVD players I tried it on.

Since then, I have not used DVDA to burn, just because I don't feel like wasting a dvd-r! haha. DVDA2 might be fixed for all i know though...

dvd-a is not the way to go if you want to burn. it works good depending on the type of media you use. you take that same media and use a different program like nero to burn your dvd-a project and get no problems.

Sony....there better be a fix in the works
markmcc wrote on 2/12/2005, 5:28 PM
DVDA2 is just as bad - use nero.
Chienworks wrote on 2/13/2005, 3:15 AM
Apparently it depends on your system and your burners. DVDA1 didn't work for me at all. DVDA2 works perfectly with all three of my burners.

I agree. DVDA1 and DVDA2 have burned fine on my systems and burners.

And sometimes it depends on your system, your burner, and your media. Using DVDA 1 and my burner, I have no problems with -R media, but get bupkis with +R media. The same media burns okay in Nero.

To be honest, I haven't even tried +R media with DVDA 2 yet. For all I know, it'll work now.

I would not blame DVDA II. My first burn took 20 minutes for a 55 minute video and seemed OK. I got timeout errors when I tried this again. It just stopped after 20 minutes. I called customer support and it was suggested to check for any firmware updates on my Plextor PX-708A drive. I downloaded the latest and now the burn only takes 3 3/4 minutes for the same file. I have not had any problems since. So check for firmware updates. I'm using TDK+R X4 media.

ladies and gentlemen I assure you the root problem lies in the media you use to burn!

I have a HP DVD Writer 300 and it worked beautifully with DVD-A 1 & 2 all depending on the media I used

Same case with this Sony one I got. So I say once you find a good media stick with it.

the_learninator:

Are you the same guy who's been complaining about DVDA being worthless at burning DVDs the past couple of days? Telling Sony that "there better be a fix..."?? Now we're supposed to be assured by you that it depends upon the media?

If you've had a change of heart, that's fine. But I think a gracious admission that your previous conclusions may have been erroneous might be in order. You're coming across as a little biploar...

I'm with pretty much everyone else here. I just prepare the DVD to disk and I use Stomp RecordNow MAX (came bundled with something, so it was free) and it works fine and is faster than DVDA. Also, I've found that a lot of DVD-R discs that are rated for 4x will not burn at 4x, so I just burn at 2x, no matter what the disc is rated for.

A pretty unlikely assessment considering most people's problems go away as soon as they use Nero or some other program to burn their projects -- same files, same media.

Reading a lot of these threads concerning 'it won't burn' it IS almost always bad media. That's based on buring HUNDREDS of DVD's with both the first and second versions of DVDA.

The primary test is if DVDA can burn one DVD, there's no reason why it can't burn the next 1,000... IF you don't get carried away with overly high bitrates AND the burner you're using is supported. Then the 'burn' really isn't the problem, its the DVD burner/player more likely causing you grief. Of course if you try to do none standard things all bets off.

Saying that if it burns fine the first DVD, the next 1000 should have no problem, is forgetting the COOLING factor of the DVD Writer.
I have purchased a cooler (Antec brand) which is something I highly recommend : it has the footprint of a portable computer, has 2 ventilators that blow under the computer, and takes power (2w) from an usb port.
I can burn or perform cpu intensive operations all day, and the computer stays cool whatever !!
