Sony Camcorder Capture - 320x240 only

For some reason in my capture settings it's only allowing for 320x240 in the dropdown box. Although this is my first go with the camera, I looked at my buddies video which is 720x480 and he has the same camcorder and the vid was captured in vegas...what am I missing.

DCR-TRV27 is the model...looked on their website but couldn't get anything.

The more information you can tell us about what you are doing, the better we can help you.

Are you using the firewire port on the camera? You should be. The firewire port can only provide 720x480 DV. It sounds like you may be using your USB port. If you are, that’s you problem. Use your firewire port instead.

Roger that....I don't have firewire so that's probably it. I just borrowed it from a friend for the weekend and this is what I got.
