Sony DCR-IP220

I was thinking about purchasing the new Sony DCR-IP220. It is the newest available from the sony family. I'm trying to achieve the best video and still image quality from a digital camcorder and this seems to be the one. The question is will it work with vegas video? It's not under supported hardware.

Originally I bought the Canon Elura 40MC for use with Vegas and it had the worst picture quality I have ever seen. Especially since I paid $1000 for it. But it was on the list so I trusted it. DONT BUY IT! it sux.

Any feedback is GREATLY APPRECIATED.

The DCR-IP220 records to Sony's MicroMV format (Sony's modified version of MPEG2) and as such is not the best option if you wish to transfer the video into an NLE for editing. (I don't believe Vegas Video supports MicroMV format at this time) I would avoid any camcorder that uses a non-DV format.

Why Would you avoid it? Is it not the best quality? Supposedly this is one of sony's best yet! What do you think?

From what I've read the quality is fine. The main problem with the MicroMV format is in editing the video output with an NLE. Due to the method of compression, MPEG2 is really only suitable as an output (viewing) format and does not easily lend itself to frame by frame video editing. Standard DV format is well suited to NLE editing.
