sony dru-500 dvd burner

i want to get this burner, but i'm on a laptop and the burner is an internal drive. can i get a case for it and use it externally?

You should be able to put it into a firewire enclosure.

I can't find the article now, but remember reading that this model is coming out in an external version as well?
