Hey all,
Just got back in town and boy have I missed this forum. Ok, Comp USA has the Siny Dru-500A on sale for $349. I think that is a good deal but just wanted to check with folk here before I rush out and buy it. Questions...1 Does this burner work well with VV? 2 Is this the best burner out there now for this price range?

Thanks in Advance,
Bush

It seems that everyone out there is selling it for about that price range. So that might be the best option especially if it's there in the store and waiting for you. It definitely looks very cool, though I've only seen a few magazine news announcements.

The only other place that might be worth checking out is Gateway.com They are offering it for about $25 less and with free shipping. However, they don't have it in stock as of 10/26/2002. The site says it usually ships in 3-4 days.

Let me see if I can get a link to work.

I just picked one of these up at Circuit City. They threw in a 3-pack of Memorex DVD+R media for free. So, basically, I got the drive for $329 and the media for $19.

Actually, the burner, or any burner has nothing to do with Vegas 2 or 3 or on. You probably get software with it that allows you to take mpg files that have been created from avi files, or it will take your processed avi file and convert it to mpg, then use those mpg files to create a DVD. In other words, Vegas allows you to edit and create a finished avi, or mpg. Then you rely on another program to assemble those mpg files and create a DVD.

Yes it works with Vegas on CD-ROMs. DVD's require an authoring application and then I burn them seperate even from that. I have a Phillips 208 +RW and I have the sony 500A. The 500A works just fine.

FWIW, I would recommend regularly checking the xpbargains.com site. They have pointers, as I think some other sites do, to good deals. I just ordered the Sony 500A from Dell for a total of $296.34 delivered. Dell regularly has 10-20% off peripherals sales that last a few days, go away, then come back. xpbargains has been the best site to keep me up to date.

BTW, I did talk with one media source, meritline, and they mentioned they did have some issues with certain of their DVD-R media and the 500A. They recommended the Accu brand which is supposed to be the OEM supplier for Sony. Got 50 pieces of DVD-R for $57 including UPS ground delivery. I don't have any proof of compatibility yet, nor is the drive installed so I can test.

Good luck!
