sONY DSR-20 not recognized

I connect my Sony DSR-20 VCR into the firewire port on the back of my Dell 8250 and my computer chimes (recognizing that a firewire device has been added). I bring up video capture in Vegas and it says NO CAPTURE DEVICE and PLEASE CONNECT DEVICE. I'm using XP Pro

Where have I errored?

Have you set the DSR-20 to be controlled by firewire? It may be looking for LanC or Control S instead of firewire control. This will prevent it from responding back to the computer by firewire.

Yes I have. Actually I use the DSR-20 with my Matrox RT-100 and it works perfectly.
