Sony DSR-PDX10 Compatibility?

Has anyone had a chance to shoot with the new Sony DSR-PDX10 (DVCAM format) and then try to capture from it using Vegas? I would like to recommend the purchase of one to replace our Sony DCR-TRV17 but am nervous about compatibility. I'd hate to buy a $2400 camera that won't work with Vegas.

And any comments about experience with DVCAM player/recorders and compatibility with Vegas would also be appreciated, since I'll want to try and get enough funding to purchase one of those to go with the camera. I'll be lucky to get the camera but one can always hope for the best!

I have. However, Vegas does not capture the stereo audio on the PDX. I have reported this to SOFO and their conclusion/advise was to use another capture program (Scenalyser) when capturing footage where the built-in stereo mic have been used.

I don't know why Vegas doesn't capture stereo from PDX10 but I guess it has something to do with the PDX beeing equiped with an XLR-adapter (which only records in mono). If you want stereo sound you can go with the built-in stereo mic or an external stereo mic. I have only tested/recorded with the build in stereo mic. When I capture footage where I have used the built-in stereo mic Scenalyser capture stereo audio but Vegas fail to do so (maybe it would work if I use an external stereo mic but I don't have one so I can't test).

I'm very pleased with the PDX10 and, especially, its 16:9 recording which is superb.

Thanks for sharing your experience, that helps tremendously. Luckily I will only be capturing audio in mono, but knowing about the problem ahead of time will save a lot of frustration. I really appreciate the feedback!

Vulcan: I have been looking at the PDX10- nice camera, work well with Vegas in general. You are correct though, audio is captured as mono (with Vegas; AVID, and Premiere too) I can find nothing in the manual about a mono/stereo setting, nothing obvious on the camera menu either.

I did ping Sony, so perhaps they can point to a secret switch.
