Sony EPM: Any idea why V5 trial won't allow layout changes?

I've mentioned this several times on the board, but so far no one has any ideas.

I downloaded the Vegas5 trial and installed it on my Dell laptop. Works great.

When I did the same thing to my desktop, however, the program appears okay, but if I try to change either the layout or any setting in Preferences or wherever, the program accepts my change for the moment, but if I close the program and then reopen it, all the changes are completely gone. In other words, the program opens to the same default settings every time.

Any idea why? I'm running XPpro on both machines.

Perhaps this is a Windows Registry problem?

Are you running an anti-virus program that does some Registry monitoring or locking? If you change a preference, does Vegas remember it for the next session?

I'm running Norton Antivirus in the background, yes. But Vegas4 runs fine.

No matter what settings I change (preferences, default properties, physical layout of the windows), Vegas5 won't remember them the next time I start the program. If I try to make a layout change and try to save it with CTRL-ALT-D and a keyboard number, I get "An error occured during the current operation. The reason for the error could not be determined."

Please note that I don't get this error message when I first start Vegas5--I've seen the advisory to check Services.

Anyway, the trial works great on my laptop.
