Sony Forum Interaction?

CorTed wrote on 6/17/2008, 10:00 AM
Call me old fashioned, but I just do not understand why on this Forum there is so little of interaction from the Forum owners.
I mean, this site is owned, sponsored by Sony. Why are they not allowed to chime in every now and then to advise on progress of fixing problems etc.
Even a simply notification on this forum regarding the status of 8.0c would be helpfull.
The target date was mid June, that passed. There are a lot of users that are looking to this version to help fix some of their problems.
Would it be so difficult to at least notify their loyal customer base that visits this forum each and every day if 8.0c is anywhere near completion, or even a simple, sorry guys we said mid June, but it looks more like August.

I am very disappointed by the administrators of this Forum hiding all the time.

Ted

Some folks seem to have a curious definition of "mid June". To me, mid June means sometime around June 11th through June 21st, give or take a few days.

Hi,

I copy that. I at least sincerely hope your request would cause some stir at SCS. Compared to other vendor forums - forum owners input here is as rare as winning on lottery...

By just giving us some small bits of advanced information, at certain times, would be very much appreciated by most of us, who have unresolved issues or questions. Direct feedback from SCS would stop unnecessary and often silly speculations. On the other hand, this forum's policy is very well in line with the Sony's policy not to reveal anything before the publish date. If that's the general policy, what can be done?

The forum "Insiders", who always are and supportive and of great help (without now mentioning any names), they probably know more than we "normal" do about releases (and dates), but they cannot sadly reveal their info because of nondisclosure clausules.

I have stumbled over SCS people in the Vegas Audio forum more often, and there the overall "traffic" is really low. I alwas appreciated their input, and also wondered why this part of the forums is so quiet... I'll bet they are ALL busy programming - and trying to improve this already excellent product to perfection ;)

Christian

PS: I have to admit that I have been checking the "upgrades" section about once per hour in the hope to find 8.0c... I feel like a child during xmas eve, having to wait to open the gifts only the next morning.... I hope it comes soon...

You probably need look no further than the release of V8.0 to see the problem with having software release dates set in stone. No one remembers if it was late, they always remember if it didn't work right.

Apart from that, the lack of interaction is bad and counter productive.
A sticky of known issues and their status would be a positive thing that'd avoid a lot of support calls and upset users.

On a different note, this used to be a fun place, what happened?

"On a different note, this used to be a fun place, what happened?"

8.0a and 8.0b.

And yes, some responses from Sony would would be a welcome change. I have posted regarding crashes in the formum AND submitted a support ticket last week and gotten zero response.

Although I found a workaround and got our feature to the post house, it's incredibly frustrating.

Want to know the REALLY crazy thing, though?

I still love Vegas ; )

This little tidbit right at the top of the master forum list:

"[i]The Sony Creative Software discussion forum is a peer support area where you can share tips and advice with other Sony Creative Software product users.[/b]"

Sony has told you how it is right from the word go.... why would you be disappointed to get nothing more than what they have stated?

Believe me... it could be a lot worse. Try the Avid liquid forums. It's being micro managed just about every minute of the day by volunteer moderators on sheer power trips. If you zig the wrong way... you're suspended. They BTW even further in the dark with their product than we are with ours. At least we're given some kind of target date. Liquid users aren't even told that.

The Ulead forums.... same thing. The Pinnacle forums are a bit better. You will see the odd Engineer answer a question or 2.... but it's not the norm.

Our forum operations are a wee bit out of date when looking at some others but all in all this is a pretty liberal place and the administrator does the job well with out a lot of micro managing.

Me..... I'm pretty disappointed that others don't see this and see fit to complain when they don't know quite how good they've got it.

And BTW..... if your post was on the Avid forums.... it more than likely would have been deleted within ten minutes of it going up.

already said, it's a user-user forum. IMHO though, they should make some people moderators so the users can organized the forum to how it would best fit them. IE a sticky of known issues, workarounds, etc. Fox doesn't post on their GameSpy forums but volunteers are assigned to keep the forums in order.

Doesn't the knowledge base do this?
TheHappyFriar wrote on 6/17/2008, 8:41 PM
that's not updatable by users. Plus you have to sift through the help system.

It's still a happy place. People need to lighten up.

Software development "schedules" like schedules for works of art or medicine cannot be set in stone - there are too many variables.

I am very happy with Vegas Pro 8.0b, so I really don't see what all the fuss is about.

Oh what's that sound......? It's the sound of some margaritas calling me! Later!
