Sony: Forum Search preferences

Since there's so many great ideas and help in this forum and everyone's first stop with a question should be the "Search" function, wouldn't it be nice if the Search were slightly easier to use? Seems like it'd be super easy to add a "search preferences" to the forum preferences area where you could set a default forum to search and a default # of results to show. Every time I search I have to set "Vegas Video" and "50 results."

Not a huge issue, but a seemingly super easy fix to an annoyance.

The best searches are usually keyed on one word. And then you have to weed thru them.

True. What I'm saying, though, is I NEVER search the Sound Forge or Vegas - Audio forum. If I'm logged in, the Search should know (via preferences) that 99+% of the time, I just search Vegas Video. And I prefer 50 responses per search instead of the default 10.

That way, I just type the word I'm looking for and go. Takes a 3-step process down to a 1-step process. That's improvement! And should be simple to add.

Brian, completely agree with you. Not a huge issue at all, but it would be soooo nice to always have the same preferences pre-set on the search.

If Sony does decide to improve the Search page, I have one small request. PLEASE move the Reset Fields button FAR AWAY from the Perform Search button! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve set up a search and then pressed Reset Fields because 1) it’s the last button the page which is usually the submit button and 2) it’s too close to the perform search button. Please move it to the far right of the page away from the search criteria.

Optionally, you could make Perform Search be the default button so we can just press the Enter key. As it stands now, you have to press the button and it’s too easy to press the wrong one. (sorry, this has always bugged me)

I wonder if software such as "RoboForm" could do the trick? I don't have it on my system right now, but I remember in the past it would look at a web page and offer to automatically fill in boxes for you.

Right after this forum, changed I posted about the Search function also changing. I never really got any Sony response - but it used to be "smart" in the sense I could put in something like EDL and get direct hits about EDL's. All of a sudden after the change if I typed in EDL I would get any thread that had any word that had the letters EDL in it!! Black Frame would return any thread with the word "black" and/or "frame". I remember at the time even trying a search for spot and getting "We are sorry nothing matched..."

This "bug", as I see it, is still there - as a test i just entered "EDL" as the term. The very first page that comes back has nothing about EDL in it...but it does have the word "unexpectedly" in it. I mean really - what is the point? I really have not used the search function for this forum since this bug was introduced because it wastes more time. Than simply posting a new quesiton, even if it has already been posted 100 times already.
