What sort of bang do you want for your buck?

A big box full of air that might fool a few that you're a "pro" cause you got a big camera then the 1000.

If you want a better camera, like one that records better images and has more features then I think the A1 would be the go.

Personally I think the days when you need a big camera to fool the public are past, Panasonic did a similar DV camera and it didn't sell well at all. This far down the track I don't know why Sony came up with the 1000, no doubt they'll sell a few but I don't think the masses were really screaming for such a camera. A big HDV camera that records over 60 minutes to tape, yes, for sure. But that's another Sony camera at a different pricepoint.

All said you might want to wait and see what Sony rollout over the next few days. New cameras are appearing thick and fast and the new CMOS sensors are very good. Still if it came down to just those two cameras the A1 gets my vote just for the balanced audio. Oh and having a few more buttons and hence less fidgetting with menus.
