Sony, Import of Vegas AAF file does not work on Avid

VidNut wrote on 4/18/2005, 6:39 PM
I made a simple project to test the AAF export in Vegas 6. I exported two AAFs one as an Avid Legacy file and the other as an Edit Protocal Compliant file as per the dropdown options in the 'save as' dialog.

When I tried to import the files into an Avid Adrenaline system I get a message:

"Exception: File Edit Rate not equal to Project Edit Rate"

It will not import the files.

I have done a little research and found this on another vendors site:
__________
What does it mean when I get the error "File edit rate does not match project edit rate" error when
trying to import an OMF created in DigiTranslator?
When converting from Pro Tools to OMF for import into an Avid system, always check the "quantize edits to frame
boundaries" box. Because Pro Tools systems perform edits on a sample accurate basis, and Avid systems edit on
frame boundaries, this option writes additional "pad" files so that regions are placed on frame boundaries when
imported into an Avid system.

___________

As Vegas also edits at the sample rate I wonder if this is causing the problem.

Any thoughts?

Oh no... we definitely need to find a solution to this one. This will allow me to do lots more work by making me more compatible with all the Avid guys.

Anyone with knowledge of this?

It doesn't work the other way around either. The only reasons I'd upgrade to 6.0 are for AAF and Decklink support. Don't have a Decklink yet so can't test that (was really hoping for support in 5.x!!) but tested AAF and it's a no go.

Very simple export from Avid Xpress Pro HD v5.1.1 to AAF linked media and Vegas chokes, giving an error about permissions. The file is local and isn't read only etc. WTF does this mean?

Also, it's crashed 5 times in as many minutes. Not impressed. (trying to RAM preview an Avid QT Reference file).

This needs fixing. Pronto.

In Preferences- General the last item at the bottom of the check list is 'AAF Export - Use frame unit for audio'
When exporting form a ProTools for AVID import I normally have to check a similar option in Digitranlsator.
Check if you have this option ticked.

Steve,
I don't have access to Vegas at the moment can you tell me if this option is ticked by default. I didn't know it was there and have not changed the setting.

Is there a magical tick box in the AAF export settings of Avid? Other than the usual embed, link to, copy to, consolidate, render effects etc I don't see anything that would be pertinent.

If I were you guys, I would bump this up to the top tomorrow morning and let one of Sony's people try to solve the issue. Someone was having an issue capturing HDV and the tech got em up and running real fast.

Don't sweat it, everyone. I'll look into it in the morning.

I didn't work on AAF, but I will bring it to the team's attention.

Thanks,
Matt

Thanks. I await your findings with great anticipation. Hopefully this is something simple...

BUMP!

Definitely need a progress report as soon as one's available.

This silence (yes I know it's NAB and they're busy!) is troubling. AAF is a dealbreaker for me. No Avid <----> Vegas, no $$$$.

If AAF doesn't work, I'll sit this upgrade out thanks.
