Sony files Shake-like patent, finalizing Socratto?

Sony is making movement to finally unveil Socratto, its in-house answer to Apple's Shake software, which it acquired from then-startup Nothing Real. A European patent application indicates that Sony is close to realizing its long-discussed video effects software, after ironically losing control of the Shake project when members of the company who worked on the project were hired by Nothing Real. The move comes after Tim Schaaff, a former senior Apple executive, joined the effort in 2006.

Shake isn't big bux anymore...

And other compositors have been dropping in price also, in order to make more money from a much bigger market.

I thought Socratto was dead now...

No, that's not what fxguide is saying.

Just that the early beta looks a bit less than wonderful, as indicated by demos and key potential customers pulling out of the beta program.

But that seems to have been NAB 2002.

You mean it was first shown then?

I was referring to the date of the article Glenn provided the link to.
That seems to be the first and last date it was shown.
Maybe Sony have been quietly beavering away on it, maybe the patent application was something found in a bottom draw when they were cleaning out an office and they decided to file it.
However a bit of a Google shows they did register a trademark for the product last year.
