Sony light ray effect

I saw on Youtube a light ray effect where the text is lit and pans like a light is passing by. I can find the effect, but for some reason cannot see how to make it pan. The tutorial is here....

I have Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 8

For some reason when I open up the effect, I do not get the timeline in the bottom...the track so I can put in keyframes.

Even when I open up his project file...it plays like it is supposed to but I cannot see the keyframes he set.

I'm at work right now, but I remember that happening at home, and if it's the same dialog I was using, what I discovered was that there is a "drag line" down at the bottom. Move your mouse down toward the bottom until it becomes a hand. At that point, you can "grab" the line and pull it up, exposing the missing area. If that doesn't work, I'll double check when I get home.

Yeah, I know, it bit me, too. In fact, I found the solution by accident, was actually going to resize the dialog, and accidentally came across the line (thankfully). I'm with you, it should give a hint!
