I'm pretty sure it just indexes all of your Sony Loops and applies tags to them, for faster searching within the media manager. I don't really know though, I dont have enough Sony Loops to try it.

How odd then.
I can't find any words on it anywhere and it seems to do nothing, kind of like dark matter.

The Sony Loops and Samples Reference Library is an incredible timesaver when using the Media Manager to catalog your loops. The real power in the media manager is the ability to "tag" media and recall it very quickly. The problem is that it takes a lot of work to tag all of your media.

Sony has done the hard part for you for their media. If you catalog any Sony loops and samples while you have the reference library enabled, the media will automatically get tagged with multiple values that make find the media very efficient. In essence, they have saved you 100’s of hours of setup time.

What you need to do to enable it is go into the Media Manager and click Media Library Actions button (upper right) and select Options... Then click on the Reference library dropdown and pick the reference library. Now you can catalog all of your ACID loops and other Sony sample media simply by scanning your hard drive for it. The tags will get added automagically.

I have to admit it is not very useful if you don’t have any ACID Loops but if you do, it really helps a great deal to not have to tag 1000’s of tiny loop files manually.

I show you how to do this and more with the Media Manager in the VASST Vegas 6 FASST training DVD. ;-)

jr,
thank you so much. I guess what confused me was the word "Samples". I thought samples = freebies, duh.
