Tape-based miniDVs are ideal. They'll interface beautifully and require very little power to work with.

Tape-based HDV is the hi-def equivalent. These two formats were invented for editing on a computer!

AVCHD is the current wave, of course. Movie Studio HD 10 and 11 will interface with it -- but it can require a very powerful computer to move the highly compressed files around. I wouldn't try to edit it with less than a good, fast dual-core computer or ideally and i7 or quad core.

great thanks.
one more question. does anyone know some good website to obtain some free background loops or some good green screen effect sites?

There are lots of great background loops at http://Muvipix.com -- a great many of them free.

http://www.footagefirm.com/ is also a great source for video clips.

I'm not sure what you mean by "green screen effects" though. Are you looking for a video or still photo background for your chroma key?

Or are you looking for green screen equipment to create the initial shot?
